Spellings of the names could, and probably should, be checked with the original documents. Also, checking other sources should be helpful in determining the exact name
The material presented consists of the following information:
- Maps (1876 versions) of each area, with specific properties identified where possible.
- Liber and page number of the original recording.
- location of the record. “KCAB” refers to the Kent County Abstract Books. These deeds had been complied in abstract form as a result of a fire in 1860, and entered into the tract index books, which are currently located on microfilm in the Michigan Room of the Grand Rapids Public Library. “R of D” indicates deeds which can be found in the Register of Deeds office.
- Names of Grantor (seller) and Grantee (buyer). This information also frequently indicates relationships, spouse and offspring.
- The date of the instrument was recorded.
- The price paid for the property, the location of the property including the Section, Town and Range; witnesses to the transaction, and the property's location on the map. Also included in this section are references to other transactions (by Liber and page) regarding the same property. These “chains of title” are often broken since some of the early deeds were lost."
